Hi! My name is Nathalie Barroso, and this is my third semester as an editor of Talking River Review. I am a sophomore here at LC State, majoring in nursing and minoring in publishing arts. I originally came to college with my mind set solely on nursing; however, TRR’s advisor, Jennifer Anderson, roped me into the idea of minoring in publishing arts and I am so grateful she did!
I have enjoyed this last year of working with a team to create wonderful journals to be adored by so many. Through TRR, I have been able to do a vast number of tasks such as selling books, leading a writing workshop, and even as far as directly working with a contributor.
Outside of TRR, you can also catch me twirling around in a bright yellow dress as I am a dancer/coach for LC’s Latin American Culture Club’s traditional Mexican dance group, Dos Rios Folklorico. Additionally, if you have any questions about studying abroad, come ask me! I studied in Costa Rica summer ’25 and now stand as a Global Ambassador for WorldStrides, the company I studied abroad through.
I am happy to announce last Friday I received the wonderful news that I’ve been accepted into LC’s fall 2026 nursing cohort. As exciting as this is, my time with TRR will have to come to a pause as my new schedule will clash with the journal’s Friday morning meetings. I’ll still be around for another two years, so I hope to continue to contribute to the journal and group when I can.
Talking River Review has allowed me to blossom my inclination towards writing and reading, and I can’t wait to see how I can incorporate this with my life that revolves around the sciences.
I hope you guys are as excited for Issue 60 as we are!
